Project Description

3D animation, 4 x synchronised digital projections, Melbourne Baths Pool.

More than 150 years ago, the Melbourne City Baths provided an alternative swimming hole to the Yarra River, which was then the source of a typhoid fever epidemic. In a murky act of creative subversion, this work  empties the pool of human bathers and transform it into a body of water specifically designed to accommodate ( generate) alternative species and life forms informed by local mythologies. Through a combination of 3D animation mapped to the Melbourne Baths, an otherwise pristine pool becomes a thirty metre habitat for an alternative life form, and an incubator for generating new life forms.
